CONVERSATIONS WITH AN INTELLIGENT MACHINE

The texts presented here are conversations between a human — the author and a psychoanalyst — and a machine, an artificial intelligence system, in this case ChatGPT. They are not verbatim transcripts but edited exchanges that preserve the course of the dialogue and the moments in which thought is still taking shape.

The machine does not play a leading role, nor is it merely a passive executor of instructions. It functions as a responsive system — at times acting as a sounding board, at times introducing other threads and formulations. Its contribution may amplify, distort, or extend the course of the dialogue.

What emerges is a record of a process rather than a presentation of definitive conclusions or positions.

What this machine is, and how these verbal exchanges might be understood, will itself become one of the themes explored here. These texts may resonate with users of AI who, in engaging with this peculiar machine, find themselves asking similar questions, experiencing both curiosity and doubt, and gradually discovering its possibilities.

A dialogue with an intelligent machine about creativity, language, and the shifting boundary between the human and the generated. The “intelligent sketchbook” does not provide ready-made answers—it acts as a partner in articulating thought, in a process where meaning emerges through interaction.

This conversation is a verbatim, slightly edited transcript of a series of conversations between AI and a psychoanalyst. Participants do not seek to define what artificial intelligence "is," but rather to describe and understand what emerges from the encounter between humans and intelligent machines. They explore a range of questions about the nature of AI, the possibilities and limitations of understanding this system, the human-machine relationship, truth, projection, attachment, and the role of interaction in collaborative meaning-making. It also reflects on what this experience reveals about both the technology itself and human nature.
